1/17 - Saturday

 

San Jose Fire Department - 150th Anniversary Dinner.
San Jose Convention Center. 6:00 PM on the loading dock. We play in the colors at 7:00 PM, YD-GOF-YD, they sing the National Anthem, we play out the colors, STB. Long sleevs and ties. They expect 1200 people for dinner.

  1/25 - Sunday Robert Burns' Birthday - Burns Night Celebrations this weekend.
  1/27 - Tuesday San Jose Fire Department - Birthday Ceremony - - The actual birthday of the San Jose Fire Department. Play during the ceremony 10:30 - 11:30 am at Station #1, 225 North Market. Meet behind the Fire House at 9:45 AM, long sleeve shirts and ties.
  1/31 - Saturday US Air Force National Guard Annual Dinner - Monterey. Three pipers and a drummer. Jay will coordinate.
  2/26 - Thursday International Cultural Festival Assembly - Milpitas High School, Milpitas, 10:30 AM. Small group, Jay and Phil, to play a few tunes
  2/28 - Saturday San Jose Police Department to open the substation at the new renovated Oakridge Mall. We'll meet at 10:30 a.m. to tune up, and play at about 11:45 for fifteen or twenty minutes. Their speeches and ceremonies begin at noon and last about a half hour. Then we'll play a few more tunes. This will be held outdoors in the parking lot near the WEST END of Oakridge Mall (nearest the intersection of Blossom Hill Road and Winfield Blvd.) where Sears is. Good local coverage for the band.

Good Old Days Parade, Pacific Grove, Police Motorcycle Competition & BBQ.

The San Jose Police Motorcycle Drill Team has invited us to join them in this parade. After the short .5 mile parade, there is a police motorcycle competition. San Jose is sending down 14 motorcycle officers to compete against drill teams as far away as Los Angeles. It is about an hour and a half drive from San Jose. We will be part of the Grand Finale. Parade starts at 10:00 AM be there at 9:00 AM. Short sleeve shirts, but bring long sleeved shirts in case the fog is in and it is cold. Jay handed out maps and directions.

  4/6 - Tuesday Celebrate Tartan Day
  4/10 - Saturday 5th Annual Bunnies and Bonnets Parade in Campbell. This is that fun little, 5 blocks, parade we did for our neighbors last year. It was so short we came through twice. Join the fun again this year. Jay will have details.
  4/24 - Saturday California Transplant Donor Network Family Reception - Chabot College, Hayward, 10:00 AM. We open their meeting. See Jay's handout. Map From Hesperian Blvd., make a left onto Depot Road. Make the first left into Student Parking Lot G. The Performing Arts Center is Building 1300. Directions
  4/30 - Friday Arbor Day - Community ceremony in Los Gatos. Oak Meadow Park in on Blossom Hill Road next to Vasona Park. Arrive at 11:00 Am and we play at noon followed by lunch if it is the same as last year.
  5/3 - Monday

Pat Tillman Memorial Service - San Jose Municipal Rose Garden
May 3, 3 PM, meet at Jay's house at noon. Pat Tillman was a former NFL player killed in combat in Afghanistan. We will be playing with the Pipes and Drums of California Professional Firefighters.

We made national TV, at least our backs and our music did.

 

5/6 - 7 - Thursday & Friday

We will not be participating in 2004. Look for us in 2005.

California Peace Officers' Memorial Ceremony for 2004 - Sacramento.
We will be playing with the Irish Pipe Band of San Francisco. Rehearsal, not for all, is Thursday, event is early Friday. We will need to learn two new tunes.

  5/11 - Tuesday San Jose Police Memorial Ceremony - Tuesday May 11th at 10:30 am. Meet Brian H. at San Jose Police Headquarters.
  5/14 - Friday Santa Clara County Sheriff's Peace Officer's Memorial Service at Headquarters, 55 W. Younger Street , 11 AM.
  5/15 - Saturday Silicon Valley Peace Officers Memorial Ride - A motorcycle, 2000 bikes, rally and fund raiser honoring fallen peace officers. They ride from San Jose to Hollister. Funds raised go to fallen peace officers family organizations and the State Peace Officers Memorial Foundation in Sacramento. We play Amazing Grace at the ceremony opening the rally, 55 W. Younger Street, 9:30 AM.

  5/22 - Saturday

Monterey County Sheriff's Open House - Salinas. We play at 10:00 AM leading in the color guard, lunch follows. Meet at Jay's house at 8:00 AM to set up car pools. Jay has maps if you are going on your own. Short sleeved shirt, black t-shirt and no tie.

  5/30 - Sunday Oak Grove Baptist Church - 10:30 AM arrive 9:30 AM

  5/31 - Monday Memorial Day - Oak Hill Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Ave. (at Monterey Rd.), San Jose. We play from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Nothing special. Meet at entrance at 9:00 AM. Bring lunch and drinks.
   6/13 - Sunday Portuguese Festival - San Jose's Kelly Park, Historic Museum. Parade, 10:30 AM, and performance is 12:30 PM. Short sleeve no tie. Be ready to go at 9:30 AM.
From 280 go south on 87 and get off first exit Alma Ave. Turn left on Alma which ends at Kelly Park, Senter Rd. Go right on Senter and left on Phelan Ave. at end of park. Parking lot is down the hill at the end of the road.

Welcome the troops home from Iraq. The exact day has not been decided. It all depends on when the troops leave Iraq and then get out of quarantine. Stay tuned for details.

  6/26 - Saturday Campbell Highland Games
They return to the Campbell Community Center. Games web site. You can serve as a stewart if you like, for free admission. We are not 'officially" appearing at the games but most of us are going.
   6/27 - Sunday The Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos - Kirkin' o' the Tartans and church service. Service is 9:15 AM, form up at 8:15 AM, in the big room/gym that we used for practice. Produced by Campbell Highland Games & South Bay Scottish Society. Flyer

110th Morgan Hill Fourth of July Parade Route

Arrive early. Exit from Highway 101 on Dunne Avenue, turn right . Go to Butterfield Blvd., before tracks, turn right and park in the Cal-Train lot a few blocks on the left. Have breakfast (Just Breakfast, 17415 Monterey Road.) and then join the band in parking loton at 10:00 AM and on Depot Street at 10:30 AM, unit 170.

Earthquakes vs. Colorado Rapids - Tail Gate Party at Spartan Stadium, hosted by C. B. Hannegan's and O'Flaheritie's Irish Pub, 10:30 to almost game time, 1 PM. Free food, free beverages, maybe free game tickets. Lot's of fun parading around the parking lot. Uniform: Band T-shirt. this is a party.

   7/24 - Saturday

A Sail on the USS Potomac - Admiral Daniel J. Callaghan Day. The USS Potomac, President Roosevelt's restored yacht, is honoring Admiral Daniel Judson Callaghan, Medal of Honor recipient, Naval Aide to President Roosevelt, and native of the San Francisco Bay Area, with a very special HISTORY CRUISE.

The cruise will depart from Jack London Square at 10 am and cruise for approximately 2 1/2 hours. We will sail from Oakland to San Francisco and then to Land's end for the ceremony and then return, piping at the various stops and the ceremony. Carpool from Jay's.

  7/28 - Wednesday Funeral for Oakland Police Officer William Seuis. Memory Gardens Odd Fellows Memorial Park, Livermore. Arrive at noon for 1 PM service. Four pipers.
  9/4 & 5 - Labor Day Weekend

139th Highland Games

at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton. We will be playing for the parade/rally of the clans (Saturday noon, Sunday 10:30 AM) in front of the grandstands and in the massed bands at the closing ceremonies (5:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday)

Parade/Rally of of the Clans - Tunes: It's a Long Way to Tipperary - Twenty Men from Dublin Town Set entrance on track. Rose of Allandale - When the Piper Plays & Tipperary - Twenty Men from Dublin Town Set as clans enter. Exit is Battle's Over & Yankee Doodle - Grand Old Flag Set.
Walk through rehearsal at 8:30 am on Saturday. Tuning on Saturday at 10:00 am and Sunday at 9:00 am.

9:00 AM, meet at St. Joseph's Cathedral. Short sleeved shirt and tie. Park in FREE lot on Market between St. John and Santa Clara St., across the street from the Tied House.
10:00 AM Pipe in colors at Church
11:30 AM Form up for procession, up Market street, to Fire Station One, 12:15 PM Dismissal. Reception follows. At the Tied House.

  11/11 - Thursday San Jose Veteran's Day- Downtown San Jose. Parade starts at noon. USA Flag Meet at Highway 87 and Santa Clara Street at 11:00 AM. We are in Division #1 and we are Unit #1.
  11/13 - Saturday Annual Fire Fighters' Memorial Mass, IAFF, Local 230
Holy Cross Catholic Church, 580 Jackson St, between 12th qne 13th Sts., San Jose, CA. Pipe in the colors at 11:00 am. Arrive at 10:00 for tuning.
  11/24 - Wednesday Evergreen College - San Jose, Scottish Heritage Day. The walk down the big hill playing Scotland the Brave. Meet at school near the general services building around 10:30 AM.
  11/27 - Saturday Marching practice for the Christmas Parades. Meet at Jay's around 10:00 am and walk over to the school.
  11/28 - Sunday St. Andrew's Day Celebration - St Andrew's Episcopal Church, 13601 Saratoga Ave., (at Fruitvale Ave.) Saratoga, CA 408-867-3493, across from the Saratoga Library. We play for 10-15 minutes after morning service. Meet at the church at 10:00 AM, long sleeve shirt and tie.
  11/30 - Tuesday St. Andrew's Day - St. Andrew is the Patron Saint of Scotland and his feast day is on November 30th.

Our Most Important Parade of the Year:

Los Gatos Christmas Parade,
11 AM. This is how we say thank you to the Los Gatos - Monte Sereno Police and the Town of Los Gatos for all their support. Starts at Almendra Avenue and North Santa Cruz Avenue to the Civic Center on West Main Street. Assemble 9:30 am in the parking lot behind the Los Gatos Brewery.

  12/5 - Sunday San Jose Christmas Parade


San Jose Christmas Parade We are unit 42 out of 97 entries. Report time is 7:30 AM to the Blue area at Delmas Ave.and Santa Clara Street, near the HP Pavilion. Park in a downtown garage.

We will step off on Santa Clara Street and Delmas Avenue around 9:15 AM. The parade is televised live starting at 9:00 AM on NBC Channel 11. The parade proceeding east on Santa Clara Street. It will turn right on Market Street marching south past Plaza De Cesar Chavez and ending at San Carlos Street. (About 0.9 mile). Same route as the Veteran's Day Parade.

  12/12 - Sunday International Police Association Division 37 - Luncheon, Bay 101 Club, San Jose. Call Jay for details
